bible verses on marriage

Couples are always on
the lookout for ways on
how to improve or even
save their marriages.
Whether your marriage is
still young or have already
matured, the best Christian
marriage advice for men and
women still comes straight
from the Word of God.

Genesis 2:18

"The Lord God said, "It is no good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him."

Short Explanation:
The purpose or benefit of getting married is not only to have your best friend permanently at your side, but God really intended for husband and wife to become one. When you are planning to get married, you must be willing to be committed to your soul mate. God did not create Eve from dust, like He did with Adam, so we can view marriage as a symbol of "oneness", because God used Adam's own flesh to create a partner for him.

Many times when couples are married for quite a number of years, they start to look like one another - have you noticed this? They have shared their hearts and have become one!

Matthew 19:3

"Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?"
"Haven't you read," he replied, "that at the beginning the Creator 'made them male and female', and said, 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh? So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate."

Short Explanation:
We can gather from the answer Jesus gave that he focuses more on how God intended for marriage to be, rather on the divorce bit. God intended for marriage to be permanent.

Hebrews 13:4,5

"Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed be kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said,

Never will I leave you;
never will I forsake you."

So we say with confidence,

"The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.
What can man do to me?"

Short explanation:
No marriage will stay untouched and become a role-model to others if the two partners do not carry one another in prayer. The marriage is the foundation of the family in society. So many times the world wants to tell us something else! Christians should teach their kids the biblical meaning of a marriage as well as how to honor biblical marriage - this is to remain faithful and love one another till the very end. Also teach your children that this is the best gift they'll ever receive: when a mom and dad honor each other in Christ Jesus.
