Guidelines For Birthday Speeches
All The Elements You Need For A Great B'Day Speech!
Birthday speeches are delivered as eloquent, heartfelt and thought through.
It requires planning and prayer.Without these two ingredients, it would be difficult to be precise and spot on regarding what to say.
How do I plan a Birthday Speech?
Make a list of a few outstanding qualities in the person that needs to be congratulated. Remember: Every person has a good side to him/her.
Think of how this person positively influences people around them. Elaborate on these positive elements. Is he or she always smiling or friendly? Or is the person helpful? Maybe he/she has a willing ear in times when you need to speak out? Think of sharing something special that not everyone knows about him/her - a humble thought. This will definitely keep your audience' attention.
What I often do at our homechurch, is to ask someone in the audience to read the
birthday scripture
that I'm using along with my speeches.
- If it's husband or wife, ask the spouse to read the verse. It adds that special personal touch.
- If you do a birthday for a child, ask one of the parents to do the scripture reading.
- For grandparents you can let the grandchildren each read a verse, if possible. Otherwise ask a youth member to do the scripture reading. It always means a great deal to older people if the young ones are involved.
- Let the youth leader or one of the Sunday School teachers read the scripture on your pastor's birthday
How do I pray in order to prepare for a Birthday Speech?
You can read everything you need to know on our page about
preparation for birthday prayer.
Planning and praying cannot be done overnight, as you need to take constant heed to how God loves the person. This is the central, most important aspect and that should reflect in your speech, over and over again. Prepare well and make use of our extended list of
Birthday Prop Ideas.
When you talk, it should always be non-critical or in a positive tone - according to God's nature.
It's a privilege to be asked to say a few words for a person on a day as special as their birthday, so let the fact that it's a privilege reflect, it's not an excercise in boasting.
