Daniel Bible Study
(A Youth Bible Study Lesson On Prayer And Trust As Preparation And Encouragement For Exams)
This Daniel kids Bible study is based on the Bible story of Daniel in the Lion’s Den. It will demonstrate how a prayerful life, combined with trust in God, will bring stability in times of insecurity.
The Daniel Bible study is ideal to use for kids who are preparing for exams or tests.
Scripture reading: Daniel 6
When you have to prepare for exams, you cannot help to feel overwhelmed by the uncertainty of the situation:
- You do not know what questions will be asked.
- You do not know how difficult the paper will be.
- You do not know if you’ll be able to finish in time.
- You’ll be writing the exam/test and there will be a waiting period before you get your results.
So your nerves might be at end…
As Christians, we know that we can pray that God must help us in situations like these.
Let’s follow Daniel’s example through this story.
(Daniel Bible Study)
1 - What did Daniel do? He continued to pray to God, because it was the right thing to do. Everybody else was praying to the king. What must we do while learning for exams? We should study enough, prepare well and do what is right – in other words, not cheating by making notes on the palm of your hand or the like. We should continue to be honest, even if everybody else has some or other cheating agenda. We should be brave when everybody else is scared of the exams. We should not follow the crowd if we know it’s not the way to go. If we are still scared after praying, then we do not really put our faith in God. Then we actually declares that God does not have the power to help us - and we know that this is not true! Look how He sent an angel to rescue Daniel.
2 – What did Daniel do? He continued to pray even when he did not know what was going to happen to him. What must we do? God expects from us to keep on doing our part, even if we do not know what is written in that exam paper. No matter how scary and uncertain it might be to others – we should stand firm and not be influenced by other children’s negative comments of fear.
3 – What did Daniel do? He trusted God, regardless the outcome of the situation. He put his trust in the Lord, regardless the uncertainty of the situation. And us? We should trust God, no matter our emotions. We cannot permit our emotions of fear to control our decisions. So even if you are filled with feelings of fear, do not rely on those feelings and do not let those feelings keep you from praying. Do not allow feelings of fear to rob you from your peace and joy that you can find in Jesus. Fear is not from the Lord! Decide not to be scared - it all starts out in our minds...
Things to remember from Daniel's story
(Daniel Bible Study)
- We can always trust God, especially if we are doubtful of the future.
- Rather include prayer as part of your lifestyle, than waiting until you are in a tight spot or in possible danger, before you learn about prayer.
- It is good practice to surround you with:
Friends that share the same values on your beliefs
Friends that also pray
Friends that treat you the way they want to be treated
Friends that are faithful to God
- God has power that unbelievers don’t know about.
- We must not give up when faced with “impossible” situations and let the pressure of the world cause us to give in.
Sample Prayer For Exams
I include this sample prayer for you to pray together with this Daniel Bible study.
Dear Lord Jesus
Thank you that I can now come to You with the assurance that You have helped people like Daniel in the past and that You can also help people like me.
Thank you that I can put my trust in You and that I can count on Your protection and assistance for this exam.
You know that I have done my part and that I have decided to do everything possible to prepare well for this test.
Please relieve me from any feelings of fear, for fear is not from you, Oh Lord. Replace the feelings of fear with peace and please give me a calm spirit to answer the questions with wisdom and understanding.
Thank you, Lord, that You'll never leave me alone.
In Jesus' Name
Amen
