David And Goliath

(A Youth Bible Study Lesson on Trust, Faith & Facing Your Giants)

Scripture Reading: 1 Samuel 17

There are many lessons to be learnt from the story of David and Goliath. This Bible study will encourage child and parent equally to build a strong character of trust and faith in order to overcome difficult situations.

The key verses are 1 Sam 17:34-37
Here David is encouraging himself and Saul by reflecting back on opportunities that crossed his way in the past. David was protecting his father's herd and in doing so, he gained trust in God when God gave him strength to kill the wild animals. These small opportunities prepared David to fight a much bigger battle against Goliath.

How do apply this in our lives?
If we pray for and make use of opportunities to conquer small problems, we will develop a mindset that will enable us to tackle any "giant" coming our way. Then we'll be able to knock that giant dead with our invisible armor of faith.

Be prepared to endure in difficult times. Run the race of faith from start to finish; wether uphill or downhill.

When you are facing your giants, be it a class test, an exam, a football match against strong opponents (be sure to watch the movie "Facing Your Giants") or doing a piano exam for the first time - be encouraged by David's example:

  • Refused to be overwhelmed by fear. Fear can be a huge giant!
  • Know that you are not alone. God is fighting with you!
  • No situation is impossible.
  • Put your giants (problems) in perspective. Pray that God will help you with this. If you see clearly, the fighting will be so much easier.
  • Do not let criticism stop you.
  • Continue to do what's right and don't ever get discouraged.

To conclude:
If you trust God in difficult situations, he will equip you with His spiritual armor of faith.

Memory verse: 1 Samuel 17:47
