Title: In The Presence Of God
Fathers day sermon 2009
Scripture reading: Genesis 2:7-9 (New International Version)
7 the LORD God formed the man [a] from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.
8 Now the LORD God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. 9 And the LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
Fathers day sermon 2009
The Bible is very clearly saying that God formed a man. Never again did He create anybody else. Then the Bible says that the Lord God planted a garden in Eden. Eden is a place.
We have to get the beginning right. God created a man, not a woman. Most of the troubles in the world happen because we get the beginning wrong. Whenever God is speaking and looking for
somebody to speak to, He’s looking for the man.
God created the man. That’s why the Bible says that
- the man is the head of the woman – I’ll explain that later
- Christ is the head of man
- God is the head of Christ
an order.
Fathers day sermon 2009
Whenever God want to do something in the earth, He’s going to look for that man He has created. God created man in such a form that Adam had everything in him. This was the first man ever. The Bible says that the Lord not only placed him in Eden and gave him the garden.
Here’s the crux of the matter: God blessed Adam with His presence
In other words, Adam was in Eden and he had fellowship with God. God established a garden and He placed this man in the garden. God blessed him with His presence day after day. In Hebrew the word ‘Eden’ has a few dots on it. In means ‘a spot’, an ’open door’. It says that God has placed Adam in a spot. In Eden. In the garden. Through that open door He could come and have fellowship with mankind. With Adam.
The reason why the world is in turmoil today, is because of this one basic thing: man has lost the presence of God. We see it in our newspapers, it irks us. We almost want to do something about it.
Whenever man is out of the presence of God, he commit the ugliest of things. He does not operate in the way the “Manufacturer” has designed him to. He’s operating out of what he was planned to do. Thus: He is not walking in his purpose.
He has missed the presence of God. We see it all around us, all over the world.
Fathers day sermon 2009
- Why are people fighting?
- Why are people divorcing?
- Why are people killing babies and leave them out in the cold?
Fathers day sermon 2009
… It is because man is out of the presence of God.
God has planned for Adam, and blessed him and showered him day after day with His presence. God is Spirit. The Bible says God came down every day and He had fellowship with Adam. If we read further on – when God was looking for them, He came in the cool of the day. Now that was not the only time when God came down. He had this open door where He could speak to man, where He could have fellowship with man.
God created all the animals. The Bible specifically says that He brought them to Adam. Adam named them all. This means: The man God created – God created him with substance.
Fathers day sermon 2009
Within mankind there is the ability to produce. This is what God is looking from man. He is always looking from man, that He has placed within the man. He wants nothing else! All he wants from you and I is that which He has placed within you and I. That is what He wants to talk about!
I imagine when Adam named all the animals, the Lord would come and have fellowship with Adam.
Most probably Adam would say one morning: You know Lord, I think this one gorilla is a bit out of sorts here… I think the trees are branching out a bit…
Fathers day sermon 2009
Man is a cultivator. He should take care of the garden. Today he should not only take care of the garden, but also of his family.
Man will always bring out the best in you. Their job is to bring out the best in their children, their families, their household. You can see this when you are at your
work. You are always trying to bring out the best. You are cultivating, you are taking care. That is what God ordained us to be.
Fathers day sermon 2009
I like what Billy Graham says: “A good father is one of the most unsung heroes, unpraised and unnoticed, yet one of the most valuable assets in our society. God intended for fathers to do
more than just bring home the bacon. From a biblical standpoint, the father is to be a provider, protector, a priest, a guide, a teacher and a disciplinarian.” - I tend to agree with him. This is one of the greatest evangelists ever.
What does “father” means? Father basically means to nourish, to support, or founder. We know that Father God was there in the beginning. Everything came through Him, Amen.
Fathers day sermon 2009
That is what we ought to be. We ought to be a carbon copy of the Father in heaven in the earth today.
Now speaking about the presence of God, I would like to add this: Adam had this presence. We must understand that because in the presence of God, he never has to sing a short chorus, a fast chorus… he was just in the presence of God. It’s like our kids here – they’re all around you, having fellowship.
You must understand – there was no thing like church back then. God created this man and within this man Adam – out of him Adam had all the genes to produce. And he was going to produce… As the Bible says: The Lord took outof Adam. His wife came out of him
We’re not putting the ladies down. We bless them and thank the Lord for them. The thing we have in the world is that the women push for equal rights. They don’t have to fight for that!
Fathers day sermon 2009
God created us like that: equally. We should be a blessing to one another. Now they are “pushing it”. The people that are going that route, are forgetting the order. Women came from men. They were in them.
Man has lost his place. He has no clue what God had created him for.
Fathers day sermon 2009
You can go to any church – you’ll see more women that men. I just thank the Lord for House of Praise where the men and the women come to church!
In the presence of God we have to live ourselves out. When we come into the presence of God, we need to be free. We need to go just beyond ourselves. We are in our Father’s presence… we
should rock with the flock, jam with the lamb.
Man has lost the presence of God. When men come into the church, they are stiff. You have to be like when your kids are with you in the house: running and bubbling, because He is Abba
Father, He is God Almighty. And that is what’s wrong in the world. Men has lost their presence of God.
Scripture reading: Colossians 1:15-23 (New International Version)
The Supremacy of Christ
Fathers day sermon 2009
15He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or
powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. 17He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18And he is the head of the body, the
church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. 19For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in
him, 20and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. 21Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of[f] your evil behavior. 22But now he has reconciled you by Christ's physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation— 23if you continue in your faith, established and firm, not moved from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.
Fathers day sermon 2009
We started out in Genesis, and then the Fall came. The Bible says God has reconciled everything in the earth and in heaven in Jesus Christ. Jew and Gentile. In other words – He has brought us back into the presence of God. We have all the reason to dance and to jive!!
People are acting like they are acting, because they are out of the presence of God. fathers day sermon
Fatherhood is God’s way of building and sustaining the human family, as a husband. The Bible says that we are the foundations of a house. Another word for husband is householder. It means he holds everything together. That is what a foundation does. The other thing about a foundation is that you don’t see it. In most families you won’t see the father operating and say “I did this or that for my kids”. No, you just see the family blossoming. The house is
growing and doing well. Because the foundation is strong enough and it is keeping everything together. We need to put our foundation on the rock of Jesus Christ.
How can we hold everything together if we are outside the presence of God? You cannot! One see people scraping, trying to make ends meet. They like what you have. They want what you
and I have, but they are outside of the presence of God. It is because we are in the presence of God that we as fathers can keep it together.
Fathers day sermon 2009
When the storms come, says Jesus, not if… the storms will come! When the storms come, the world system crash. Foundations are tumbling… because people are living outside the presence of God.
Get in line with God’s plan for you, so you can live out what God has placed within you. There are great things that He has placed within you in order for you to lead and guide your family.
We need to be protectors, as Billy Graham says. Fathers need to teach kids, especially boys to be a protector. To protect your family. God has built that within you already. That’s instinct. It’s in your ‘make-up’.
Fathers day sermon 2009
The reason why wee see so many rape cases out in society, is because man is outside of the presence of God. That which he is supposed to protect, he now destroys. He’s out of his element. We need to teach the young men, that when you take out a lady, you need to protect her. Her virginity too. That they should not give in to their desires. But that they must live up to that which God has placed within them. The opposite is happening out in the world.
Unless people come back into the presence of God and see really how God has fashioned and moulded the man, and what he ought to be, we’re fighting a losing battle. This is
why we as the church must be role models, men. We need to stand up and be counted in the areas where we work. For too long good men has stayed silent. You cannot just focus on ‘me and my
household’. We start out on that foundation, but when I move out of my house, whatever is visible, whatever I see, there I need to bring order. Why - because I have the presence of
God. I walk in the presence of God and where I put my foot where I work, I need to bring that order.
THE PRESENCE OF GOD BRINGS ORDER
Fathers day sermon 2009
Am I my brother’s keeper? He might not know everything, but we know better. Because we know better, we need to discipline them. They will respect you later. We need to discipline inside, as well as outside our homes.
The Bible says that the women folk have to honor their men. But the men have to give up their lives, as Christ gave up his life for the Church. Do you know what that means? We need to die
for you! And all you ladies have to do, is to honor us.
When we praise God, He inhabits our praises. When you tell your man how great he is, encourages him, thank him for what he does, you’re on the right track. If you bring him down, you’re bringing yourself down.
Fathers day sermon 2009
Let’s round this off today… the reason why the ladies speak, is because the men are silent. It is your job first, man, to praise God. You have to lead your family and the society. Whoever is under your care, God has designed you to bring out the best in them. We need to have fellowship, have to interact with God to find wisdom to be able to produce. God
made us that way.
Amen.
