5 Easy Steps: How To Memorize Scripture

Get To Know Your Bible Verses Today!

Here are some tips for helping you on how to memorize scripture in an easy, doable way. Follow this proven method in the order given and use it as fuel for your Christian Life to grow and glow!

  • Choose a short verse to begin with.
  • Create a memory card by printing the verse on a piece of paper and glue to heavy paper.
  • Very important: Keep the scripture with you wherever you go. Keep it in your pocket, your pencil case or use it as a placeholder in your diary. Make a few copies, stick them on the fridge, above the stove, next to your toothbrush, on your lunchbox, but be sure it's visible througout the day.
  • Day one: first thing in the morning - read your verse and repeat at least 3 times. During the day - try to say the verse off by heart, maybe just the first 3 words. Repeat whenever you feel the card in your pocket or see it in your home. Last thing at night, read your verse once more. Meditate on the scripture and it will become part of you. Become best friends with your scripture memory card.
  • Next day: take off where you left yesterday. Learn the rest of the verse or just the next 3 words, but keep going!

If you have toddlers and want to teach them memory verses, you can use the same method as above. Replace the printed verse with pictures that will remind them of the verse.

Kids in Grade K-7 can subdivide longer verses for easy learning. Print each line on a different card. Use the same method as above, but only learn one line at a time.

Don’t be too hard on yourself and remember to take it slow at first. Every effort brings you closer in your relationship with the Lord. Knowing God better means that you allow Him to take control in your life.

Golden rule: Repeat in order to succeed.

Encouragement!

Here's another great idea to get those little ones memorizing their scriptures. Make a video recording while they say their scriptures. This prompts them to "perform" and get it right. No matter your method - the scriptures will stick.
